Staff Cabaret 2017 - Thursday May 25th
Staff from Commonweal School entertained students and their parents at the Charity Staff Cabaret. From singing to dancing and comedy, staff pulled out the stops to make another fabulous evening and raised loads of money for two charities Coram Voice and the Mankind Initiative. Judging by the clapping and roars and hoots everyone had a great time!
“Commonweal prides itself on supporting charities through the Arts and we have smashed last year’s total by raising £3,000! Back in April 2011, Mr Stacey and I ran the London Marathon (I beat him by the way!). We both had charity places for the race and therefore each had to raise in excess of £1000 to take part. We decided to put on a show at school featuring staff rather than students, and so the Staff Cabaret was born.
That first show was so much fun, and such a success that Headteacher Keith Defter and I decided to give it a go again two years later and we have gone on to repeat the event every year since then.
I make a point of choosing charities to support that have a personal link with staff or students within the school. Previous beneficiaries’ of the money have included: Click Sargent, VICTA, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Prospect, Swindon SANDS and former student Louise Hunt Rio Paralympics fund. In total, over the years we have raised in the region of £10,000,” said Ali Sutcliffe, Head of Performing Arts.
The second half of the show kicked off with an auction and raffle with prizes kindly donated from local businesses and families associated with Commonweal.
